Tuomarikommentit
Kaikkein kiinnostavin palaute,
mitä kukaan voi antaa, on tuomarin kommnetit näkemistään
koirista. Tätä perinnettä koettaa kerho pitää
parhaansa mukaan. Tuomarit haluavat kirjoittaa näkemistään
koirista useimmiten kotona kaikessa rauhassa sulateltuaan asioita hiukan.
Anne Taylor:
Haluan kiittää kaikkia,
jotka olivat mukana näyttelyssä, järjestäjiä,
erinomaisia kehäsihteereitä ja kaikkia niitä henkilöitä,
jotka huolehtivat minusta, sekä näyttelleasettajia, jotka tekivät
päivästäni nautittavan. Olin odottanut matkaani Suomeen.
Jokaisella vierailullani koirien laatu on tehnyt minuun vaikutuksen, eikä
tämä kerta ollut poikkeus. Monet koristanne voisivat kilpailla
missä tahansa maailmassa ja teidän tulee olla ylpeitä kasvattamistanne
koirista. Tiedän että teillä on mahdollisuus käyttää
vierasmaalaisia siitosuroksia, joka antaa mahdollisuuden valita tiettyjä
linjoja tai ominaisuuksia, mutta silti suurin osa kasvatuksestanne on voimakkaasti
suomalaista – ja se kertoo paljon kasvattajien taidoista.
Tuomarimme yleisvaikutelma nartuista
oli, että täällä on erittäin tyypillisiä
labradoreja.
- Muutamat koirat olivat hieman
ylipainoisia, mutta en nähnyt niitä niin paljon kuin näkisin
Britanniassa.
- Käytettiinpä koiraa
metsästykseen tai ei, labradori on käyttökoirarotu ja sen
tulee olla fyysisesti ja henkisesti soveltuva tehtävään
johon se on jalostettu.
Anne muistuttaa vieilä, ettei
ole terveellistä pitää ylipainoisena erityisesti labradoria,
joka on melko raskasta rotua muutenkin. Liikapaino ja nuori, kehittyvä
luusto eivät sovellu yhteen. Anne kehoittakin pitämään
koirat kunnossa, ei lihavina, ettei täällä päädyttäisi
samaan tilanteeseen kuin hänen kotimaassaan.
Hän kertoo olleensa hieman pettynyt
koirien karvan laatuun.
- Turkit eivät olleet niin
tiheitä ja karkeita kuin edellisellä vierailullani.
- Ehkä joku oli päättänyt
kevään koittavan ja sen vuoksi pudottanut pohjavillansa, Anne
lohkaisee.
- Voin kommentoida ainoastaan narttuja,
mutta yleisesti ottaen päät olivat hyviä, ainoastaa
muutamalla oli lyhyt kuono-osa ja leveä kallo.
- Olin myös hieman ankara silmien
värin suhteen, kun muutamassa ensimmäisessä luokassa näin
koiria joilla oli liian tummat silmät. Sitten huomasin, että
hallin valaistus sai joidenkin koirien silmät näyttämään
tummemmilta kuin ne oikeasti olivat.
- Luusto ja käpälät
olivat kauniin pyöreitä ja tiiviitä, ja vain muutamalla
koiralla olisi saanut olla hieman enemmän luustoa raajojen alaosassa,
ja kahdella koiralla oli liian raskas luusto labradorille.
Anne löysi myös hyvin kulmautuneita
lapoja yhdistyneenä lyhyisiin, jyrkkiin olkavarsiin, kuten kaikkialla
muuallakin maailmalla.
- Valitettavasti tämä
virhe saa koiran menettämään tasapainoisuutensa. Voi kuinka
toivoisinkaan pääsevämme tästä virheestä
eroon, huokaisee tuomarimme.
Monilla koirilla Anne muistelee nähneensä
erittäin hyvin kaareutuneet kylkiluut, vahva lanne ja oikea
selän pituus. Liian tiivisrunkoisia oli vain muutama - onneksi, sillä
tämä on erittäin haitallinen seikka käyttökoiralle,
kuten Anne muistuttaa.
- Olette onnistuneet säilyttämään
hyvän hännän kiinnityksen, sekä hännän kantoasennon,
hän kiittelee. Monet labradorit maailmalla kun näyttävät
heiluttavan häntäänsä kovin ylhäällä.
- Erittäin epälabradorimainen
tapa.
Näyttelyn labradorit olivat
tuomarinsa mielestä hyvän kokoisia, tasapainoisia, tyypillisiä
labradoreja, jotka olivat myös hyvässä kunnossa.
- Etuosan kulmauksissa olisi parantamisen
varaa, mutta siitä huolimatta oli hyvin tyytyväinen näkemiini
koiriin,sanoo Anne Taylor kiitellen näyttelyyn ilmoittautuneita siitä,
että toivat koiransa hänen arvosteltavakseen.
Janice Pritchard:
Kiitän kutsusta, jonka sain
kerholta saapua arvostelemaan näyttelyynne. Tämä oli jo
viides kerta, kun arvostelen labradoreja Suomessa, ja joka kerta on ollut
yhtä antoisaa, sekä samalla ilo että etuoikeus. Sydämellinen
vieraanvaraisuutenne, aidot ja asialleen omistautuneet kasvattajat, sekä
hyvät koirat ovat aina tehneet tuomaritehtävistäni niin
antoisan.
Oltiinpa sitten missä tahansa
arvostelemassa labradoreja, nartut vetävät pitemmän korren
uroksista. Nartut ovat yleensä tasaisempia ja niiden laadun syvyys
on parempi kuin urosten. Kannattaa miettiä mistä tämä
johtuu. Joidenkin rotujen kohdalla asia on päinvastoin.
Erikoisnäyttelyssä oli
joitakin todella hyviä uroksia jokaisessa luokassa, vaiika odotinkin
näkeväni enemmän lupaavia pentuja alkuluokissa. Parhaat
uroksenne ovat erinomaisia ja ne menestyisivät missä tahansa
kilpailussa. Kaiken kaikkiaan esitettyjen urosten joukosta keltaiset olivat
mustia parempia ja tämä näkyi siinä joukossa, joka
oli selvittänyt tiensä paras uros-luokan finaaliin. Näin
melko paljon ylipainoisia uroksia kehässä. Labradorien ei tarvitse
olla lihavia. Näin myös uroksia, jotka olivat todella raskaita
ja ylikehittyneitä, etenkin pään ja lapojen osalta. Labradoriet
jotka ovat luustoltaan ja rakenteeltaan liian raskaita, eivät kykene
työskentelemään asianmukaisesti, ja suuret rottweiler-tyyppiset
päät eivät yksinkertaisesti ole rodulle tyypillisiä.
Älkää koskaan langetko kuvittelemaan, että mitä
suurempi, sitä parempi pitäisi välttämättä
paikkansa tämän työtä tekevän rodun kohdalla.
Kaksi tärkeintä seikkaa,
joissa on parantamisen varaa ovat ensinnäkin liikkeet – etenkin takaliikkeet
- ja toiseksi päät. Näyttelyssä oli yleisesti ottaen
paljon tasapäitä. Tällä tarkoitan päitä,
jotka ovat hieman liian tasaisia ja kapeita ja jotka tarvitsivat enemmän
muotoilua otsapenkereen ja poskien seuduille, jotta niistä tulisi
komeampia ja miellyttävämpiä.

Comments
Anne Taylor:
Firstly I would like to take this
opportunity of thanking everyone involved with the show, organisers, my
stewards (who were really excellent), those in charge of looking after
me, and last but not least, the exhibitors, who made my day so enjoyable.
I had been looking forward to my
visit to Finland, once again. Each time I have been I have been very impressed
with the quality of the dogs. This time was no exception. Many of your
dogs could compete anywhere in the world and you should be proud of the
dogs you are producing. I realise that you have access to stud dogs in
several other countries, which gives you more choice in bringing in certain
lines or individual features, but even so much of your breeding is strongly
Finnish and says a lot for the knowledge of your breeders.
My overall impressions were that
you have some very typical Labradors. Whilst a few dogs were a little overweight,
generally you don’t suffer from the large amount of overweight dogs that
we do in GB. Whether you actually shoot with your dog or not, the Labrador
is a working breed and should be physically and mentally fit to do the
job it has been bred to do.It is also not healthy to have any dog overweight,
especially a fairly heavy breed like a Labrador. Large amounts of weight
and young growing bones do not mix well. So keep you dogs fit and not fat
and don’t end up as we have done in GB, please.
I was a little disappointed in the
coat texture of some dogs. They were not as dense and hard to the feel
as I remember them last time I judged. Maybe some had decided that Spring
was on its way and that they had better lose some of their winter undercoat.
I can only comment on the bitch entry but I found heads to be quite good
overall with not too many with very short muzzles and too much width across
the skull. I may have been a little hard on eye colour, with some of the
earlier classes. I found some very dark eyes but then began to realise
that the lighting in the hall was making some look darker than they actually
were.
Bone and feet were very good in most
dogs. A few could have done with a little more bone lower down their legs,
and one or two actually had too much bone for a Labrador. Feet were generally
round and tight. As with anywhere in the world, I found some shoulders
which were well layed back but had rather short, steep upperarms. This
fault upsets the whole balance of the dog, unfortunately, and how I wish
we could improve on this aspect of the dogs we have today. Many dogs had
really good well sprung ribs, with a strong loin and correct length of
back. There weren’t too many who were ultra short coupled, certainly a
thing which is detrimental to a working dog. You have managed to keep tail
sets and carrages good throughout. Quite a few Labradors, around the world,
seem to wave their tails way up in the air these days. A very un-Labrador
like trait.
So overall I found the dogs to be
of a good size, well balanced, typical and in good condition. Shoulder
angulation was the thing I would work on to improve, but other than that
I was very satisfied with the dogs I saw under me. Thank you all for bringing
them.

I would like to thank the club for
inviting me to judge at their championship show. This is the fifth time
that I have judged Labradors in Finland and each time has been great, both
a pleasure & a priviledge. Your excellent hospitality, genuine &
dedicated breeders and good dogs have always made it a rewarding judging
appointment.
Wherever you judge Labradors the
bitches have the edge over the dogs, they are usually more even and depth
of quality in the females is better. It is worth thinking about why this
should be the case. In some breeds it is the reverse which applies.
Here at the club show there were
some really good dogs in every class, though I would have expected to have
seen more promising puppies in the earlier classes. Your top dogs are super
and would win well in any competetion.
Overall, in the entry presented,
the yellows were up on the blacks and this showed the final line up for
the best dog. I noticed quite a few over-weight dogs in the ring, Labradors
don’t need to be fat, also a few typy dogs that had become really heavy
and overdone, particularly in head and shoulders. Labradors which are too
heavy in bone and build can not work properly and big Rottweiler heads
are just not typical, never think that bigger is necessarily better in
thin working breed.
The two main points for improvement
would have to be movement (especially hind action) and heads, in general
there were a lot of plain heads. By plain I mean heads a little flat and
narrow, needing more sculpting around the stop & cheeks to make a more
handsome and pleasing head.
