Tracking

Labrador as a field tracking dog

The track imitates a wounded animal’s path in the forest, and the track contains ”lie-downs”, where the game has rested and thus the scent is stronger, angles and a bloodless part which the dog must point out.

In real life the tracking dog is very useful when an elk or a deer has collided with a car and escaped into forest.

The Labrador retriever has a keen on scent and thus this test suits it very well. The majority of field tracking champion titles in Finland have been awarded to Labradors.
